MIMM: Frauen Power

Woah – my weekend seemed to zip by and now we are back to Monday again, something that I’m bemoaning and celebrating in equal measure.

But as it is marvellous Monday, let’s focus on the positives!

I am super excited that this week is here because my awesome and beautiful sister is coming down on Thursday night and then we’re off to the Vitality show on Friday. I can’t wait to see her again and go to my first ever health show!

Especially with this joker:

Poster girls for healthy eating ;)

Before I start recapping the brilliance that was the weekend, I’m going to explain the title of my post, Frauen Power, which means Women Power in German. I love it as a saying and partly put my addiction to Yogi Tea down to the fact their Women’s Energy has the words ‘FrauenPower’ on the front of the teabag.

Anyway, my weekend had a lot of Frauenpower and I for one needed it. My boyfriend James is incredible and I try and spend as much time as possible with him as we don’t get a huge amount of it but spending time with strong, inspirational women who I love means the world to me.

Saturday

James was off home for the day so I walked him to the bus stop and bought the papers before settling down for a gorgeous breakfast and some me time.

After that it was time to get to work – James’s dad was staying that evening as they had his soon-to-be brother-in-law’s Stag Party and I wanted our flat to sparkle. Four hours – and two full Dysons – later everything was done.

I then walked down to town to meet one of my best friends, Lisa, for a catch up and a film. We did a whole lot of shopping before snatching a bite to eat before the film.

We did plan to have a posh lunch out but Zara and Whistles took up a little too much of our time so we ran to Caffe Nero instead.

I clearly have no originality and grabbed my favourite Tomato and Basil soup and a black Americano and some biscotti.

Never gets old! It was chucking it down with rain outside so we had to sprint to the cinema with full stomachs – not advisable!

We watched The Guilt Trip, which is about a son who ends up taking his doting mother on a trip across America as he tries to sell his cleaning product.JUDY-guilt-trip

It was one of the most heart warming films I’ve seen and I wholly recommend it. Funny, touching and believable. I laughed a lot, cried a little (especially at the end) and ate lots of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream.

The only irritating thing was that we had to pay £15 a ticket as the film was only showing in the Director’s Lounge.

City of Bristol-20130316-01149Lisa looking fab outside our swanky home for the afternoon.  We agreed the extra £6 for cinema tickets was acceptable as we really, really loved the film and it was great to sit in comfy seats with other people too terrified to make noise as they knew everyone else had shelled out to be there.

It was a bit dark but I think you can just about make me out!

We were on a roll after our luxury cinematic experience and decided to get a manicure together. I’ve only ever had one manicure before and it was not the best experience.

Let’s just say rude staff, crazily expensive rates and the nail varnish washing off (!) in the spa bathroom before I drove home didn’t make me want to go again.

But Lisa promised the place would be “cheap and cheerful” and it was! £10, a friendly assistant and huge range of colours – with a hand massage thrown it.

My nails are painted with OPI High Roller. It seemed a fitting polish after our day ;)

We didn’t manage to get a picture together but here’s one from a few years ago – this girl absolutely rocks my world!

And joins me in terrible fancy dress. I think we were.. red?!

I treated myself to a yoghurt, cacao nib, frozen cherry and almond butter bowl with dates and more nut butter on the side when I finally reached home very late.

On Toy Story cutlery, of course. It was a yummy way to end a perfect day.

Sunday

More girl power on Sunday! I woke up early and went to the gym for a speedy 30 min work out before heading to the train station. Of course almost every train was delayed so I didn’t end up arriving at Bath until almost 11am.

A perfectly acceptable time for cake!

I treated us to macaroons and coffee at the Bertinet Bakery. We actually ended up getting an extra one and ended up sharing two (the salted caramel and pistachio) so my sister Jenny, who was not with us, was able to enjoy the vanilla and raspberry flavours.

We had such a good time and everything tasted incredible. It was so good to see mum and give her a proper Mother’s Day to say thank you – I was working last weekend so could only manage a phone call, which was not what I wanted at all.

There was more shopping and lots of trying on, something I never seem to do. I’m not a brilliant shopper as I always feel guilty for taking too much time but Mum always encourages me to spend ages.

She knew I was after a new pair of jeans. I don’t know if any other runners have this but my legs totally changed when I started upping my mileage last year and lots of my trousers stopped fitting thanks to powerhouse calves. Since then, I’ve been loathe to buy any more so have been making do with very old jeans held up with a belt and skirts.

Well, Mum decided enough was enough and we went to Mimi Noor, a denim specialist in Bath.

City of Bristol-20130317-01163I tried on a few jeans and fell in love, then almost fell over when I saw the price. I found a perfect pair of J Brands that actually fitted me on the waist and allowed for my ‘generous lower hip area’ as the sales assistant and my mother put it (!), with a slightly wider leg at the bottom to allow for my chunky calves.

Next thing I knew mum had pulled them out of the changing room and bought them for me! I can’t bear to take them out of the bag, they are too beautiful!

After a great day with mum, it was back to…

… and on with the chores with James.

We cracked through shopping and washing until it was time for dinner. I started prepping our salads as usual but stopped and took a picture because I found something funny that I never notice:

His ‘n’ hers salad toppers.James likes his chopped into big chunks whereas everything has to be as small as possible for me. Does anyone else have this?

Oh and I’m not a radish fan, even if they do look lovely!

All in all, a fab weekend!

* What’s your favourite nail colour? Do you like your food cut in different ways to others?

* Any bloggers coming to the Vitality Show? Let me know, I’d love to meet you!

  1. sounds like a freaking great weekend. how have I never heard of this movie? now I need to check it out! strangely, I actually hate painting my nails. I rarely have nail polish on them, only once in a blue moon. I actually own zero nail polishes.

I did look at dates for The Vitality show but just can’t make it this year- maybe next year.
I chop my veggies into big chunks because I just rush, whereas Andy chops things super small as he thinks it looks better that way, so we can always tell who did the chopping!

    • Ah no, what a shame. Haha I have to admit I subscribe to Andy’s way of thinking, I think small neatly chopped bits make a plate look better. James likes the chunky approach as it is quicker and he thinks more satisfying to eat.
